Roses are Well-Read

An academic career involving theoretical physics and computer science is not very high up the "How to Meet Women" list. In fact, if it's on that list at all it's only because of an irresponsible sub-editor having a laugh. In short, there is something terribly wrong when switching to computer science brings you into contact with more members of the fairer sex.

But now I find out, from former classmate and über-physicist Joe, that this year's Rose of Tralee just graduated from UCD with a first in theoretical physics. She was in the year behind me. Why is finding women so hard? I mean, it's not rocket science.

The lack of women in computer science is astounding. In the current internship program I'm in out of a selected 12 there is one woman. Her role is one of business, even though she is a computer science graduate. It seems that woman want nothing to do with computers or physics or anything even slightly (tread carefully here Mr. O'Leary) intellectual. The majority of women in my college are enrolled in the faculties of business, art and science (if you want to call biology that). I think the problem you may be facing is that you're looking for a logical or maybe scientific way of finding them when clearly women reside in that strange area we call 'illogical' or just downright crazy.

Could be just my observation though…

Djinn,

You are missing a fundamental point here. Women are nopt "illogical" in the strictest sense of the description. They do, however, subscribe to their own set of pricipals and parameters - those of "WOMAN-LOGIC". The reason it seems so strange and contrary to the basic reality in which we live is because the substance of woman-logic is similar to that of quantum physics or the sub-conscious. Trying to understand it from a rational or classic point of view is like trying to compare aples and oranges. Both exist and yet, somewhat paradoxically, both are mutually exclusive. In short, men think thermodynamics women think fluffy things with a floral pattern. LET THE FLAMING BEGIN!
