Isn't There an Alternative?

Search Google maps for directions from Dublin, Ireland to San Francisco, California and look at step #46:

Swim across the Atlantic Ocean 5,572 km

I was rather hoping to fly…

I think that #47 is even better! Turn left at Long Wharf! The simplicity of swimming across the atlantic boiled down into 5 words! I would at least think that even a superior male specimen like yourself would have to take a breather after your jaunt across the ocean!

Surely it would be more efficient to drive to Galway and then swim, rather than making your way to France first.

It's actually quite a clever prank, albeit released somewhat soon for April Fool's day. It turns out that if you travel eastward, distances are indicated in miles, while voyagers with a departure address in Europe are treated to distances in kilometers. Try it yourself, asking for reverse directions. And this interesting feature is implemented flawlessly in "localized" Google Maps versions, too.

Awesome find, Rory.
