Breaking News: Pope Still a Bigot

Posted in , , and on Mon, 26th Feb 2007 at 23:47

I think it's quite kind of the Pope to raise his ugly head every now and again to remind us all how mindlessly perverse his ideas are. This time he "attacked" artificial insemination, of all things. Of course if God insists that someone shouldn't be allowed to reproduce then that's his prerogative as king of the faeries and who are we to argue? Oh yes, that's right. We're intelligent, reasonable, compassionate human beings, ethically compelled to assist those in need. At least some of us are.

His Popeness also reiterated his "gays are icky" stance, as I imagine he does at every available opportunity. Once again this failed to make a billion or so people ashamed to call themselves Catholics, for reasons best known to themselves, though possibly involving finger-in-ear-la-la-la syndrome.

In other news, our Tea-suck or however you spell it Bertie has condemned the "aggressive secularism" that is growing in Ireland because, it is in the best republican traditions to support the religious elements. He even called "secular types" illiberal. If that isnt the pot calling the kettle a nubian I dont know what is.

What an odd statement. Secularism can't really be aggressive. I wonder was he reacting to forthright rationalism? Unfortunately the RTÉ News online story (http://www.rte.ie/news/2007/0226/religion.html) doesn't say anything about that statement beyond, "Mr Ahern said it would be a betrayal of the best traditions of Irish republicanism if an aggressive secularism had its way."

I was amused by this remark: "Mr Ahern complimented the way Christianity was still indelibly shaping Ireland". I wonder if he went on to compliment cancer's indelible shaping of a sufferer's body.
